The pre season fixture list may read three defeats, but each one has been invaluable in learning the capacities of the new Binfield Ladies team going in to the new season - and Sunday was no exception at 'home' to Basingstoke Town Ladies Reserves.
This was a good performance against a side in a higher division that saw several players excel in unfamiliar positions as well as a first ever goal for the club scored by Loren Cardy.
The Moles held their visitors for the opening 35 minutes thanks to some excellent catching from Jo Anderson and solid defensive action from Michelle Melia and Ciara Molloy at centre back.
The visitors did break the dead lock just before the break with two well taken goals and scored their third shortly after the second half restart but that was it for Basingstoke who were forced to defend the counter attack on several occasions with the Moles getting forward in numbers.
Binfield's goal came from a simple pass and move down the right flank starting with Melia who found Nicky Edwards in space, shared passes with Cardy who finished things off from a simple lay-off by Lucy Cooper with what is fast becoming a trademark looping finish.
The Moles go in to the season opener on Sunday at Sandhurst Town in good shape for what is always a tough test (ko 2pm).
