On an even keel

For any of you with a nautical nature, you will hopefully know what I mean, but the seas of Section B started off a bit choppy and the intake of water onboard was steady. However, the longer that the team ventured out and continued to hoist the main brace, the quicker they overcame old man Neptune…Now no one knows what I am on about?
The point here is that the more time the team has played in this section, the better they have got and turned the losses into some good hard fought wins. Again, only a few of the team have played at such a level before, but it’s the team that makes thing tick and full commitment that helps grind out this closer wins. At the start after some close loses, we said that they would turn it around, with a bit more time. The result this week and specifically the last game where the team were down to the bare minimum, demonstrates this commitment.
Playing the format that helps the team dynamics in key parts of the game, we went ahead again in the 1st qtr (which we have tended to achieve in most recent games, vs. the previous concede and chase games), via a well worked team goal. James picking up the ball to the right / centre and nudging the ball closely forward to GT, who turned and passed forward to Michael. He calmly made his decision and ensured it went in, after a clean shot to the left of the keeper. That’s a consistent 6 goals in 8 games (1 game he missed) for him in that striker position, since our return on the 23rd Jan.
Opportunities to extend the lead were close to coming off, with some powered shots over the bar and some box scrambles just cleared out before any Binfield reaction. Both keepers at either end had some work to do and Jamie confidently dealt with a few crosses and shot stops.
The 3rd qtr finally led to that long awaited goal, With James playing central midfield, put a well weighted ball through to Jamie who was already making his run. Under close scrutiny of the defender, he controlled and pushed the ball forward and stuck the ball hard a low into the left of the goal. This oddly not being the first game that both our goalkeepers have go their names on the score list in a game.
With only a minute left of the 3rd, the opposition won a corner on our left and again as previous testing us, placed a high ball towards the back post after a short corner. Unfortunately this time, the defence broke and moved forward leaving 3 players on front of the post to decide which will hit it. With only Michael to beat, the shot was taken extremely well which only some luck may have deterred. Defensively, we need to improve on such matters, even if only to focus and look around at such moments.
The match continued to be hard fought on a very sticky pitch and with some further chances and some dogged efforts to stem any counter attacks, the team saw out another win Section B performance.
