A return visit of our local rivals to Binfield, was are chance to get things back on track in many ways. 2 loses on the spin, gave us all plenty to focus on and correct what we have learnt from these games. An early crisp morning always helps to sharpen the minds and bodies of young and old! Early leads are so important to us, as this sets the correct mental attitude which is hard for U9’s to manage, especially if the start is not in our favour or the tide turns suddenly. This being the ultimate test in spirit and respect for team mate and opposition. In what again was a pleasant and fair played game (which I respect in this opposition), pressure and a hard start by the Vikings forced an error and an own goal in the 1st qtr. With our goakeeper not having to do much with a solid defence, enabled our attacking players to extend the positives in the 2nd qtr with goals from Michael and Guy (assisted by Wills and Michael). Some of the Vikings pass and play at times is extremely good and when excuted, can deliver the move we all love to see. The highlight of the game was unquestionably the delightfull chip into the box by Jamie to Charlie in the 3rd qtr, who you could see watched and lined up his body to turn his head with ball on it, into the net. The crowd roar was one the the loadest of late and is Vikings 2nd headed goal. Not bad at this early stages. Despite a goal conceded in the 3rd to a corner and are reactions just being slightly slower to the ball, the 4th qtr brought a renewed energy and strength that Vikings can demonstarte in the last qtr. Both teams tiring, Vikings successfully overpowered with 2 more goals from Jamie and Michael (assisted by Noah and Jamie) to put the game to bed. One late disallowed goal by Jamie for a foul on the goalkeeper, perhaps the only contentious aspect of the game. This game also gave us the ability to see some players in different positions and definate positives were seeing Wills boss the attack in the 1st qtr and George showing real dettermination and safe play in defence. A reverse in the score of our previous game was a welcome relief and again an indication of what can be achieved by pulling together.
