It was great to play the first game of the season at the Binfield FC ground and the pitch was in top condition despite the heavy recent rain.
The match started with an element of caution from both sides and early pushing forward by Binfield was defended well by Ginga, with some promising early runs behind their defence caught offside.
Daniel decided to try another track and hit in a trademark edge-of-the-area shot, beautifully placed to open the scoring, soon after Mark followed suit and made it 2-0 with a shot that also gave the Ginga goalie little chance.
Ginga had some attacks of their own but were stifled by the strong Binfield defence with Joel making some good calls for pass-backs and clearing them
well, also coming out well to collect lose balls.
Binfield added a third when a good attack led to a lose ball that went to the path of Jack, who coolly finished for his debut goal. He has a great
“poachers” instinct as we have seen before, reading the game brilliantly, turning up in the right place at the right
moment to capitalise.
3-0 Half-time.
Just as the second-half was about to get underway, Joel was stung by a wasp on the arm and had to be replaced
in goal by TC, (thanks TC). The lads then restarted with great confidence, (a bit of over-confidence, maybe), went straight on the attack and lost their shape. Ginga capitalised with a good run and attack down our left, and a well-deserved goal slotted in the top corner.
The strong attacking style of last season continued as Binfield pushed forward and a shot spilled by the Ginga goalie was pounced on by James, Jack and Sam, with James getting the touch that scored, not pretty, but it is important to chase those balls in for the “scraps”.
The scoring finished with a through ball releasing Sam on the right wing and he duly converted with a great
sprint and finish to get his debut goal.
There was a lot of really entertaining football played and Ginga certainly made a good game of it, never giving up or losing their composure. I think they will do well over the season.
Binfield were a little bit ragged at times, possibly this was down to the coach experimenting a bit with positions and the lads getting used to each other.
It's good to win when you don't play at your best!
Man of the Match
Aaron gets the accolade this week with a cool and professional performance, seemingly winning every ball on the ground or in the air. Excellent reactions and first-time clearances. Keep it up.
A great start to the season with the usual elements of hard work, team work, skill and commitment in abundance. Well done, but there is room for improvement in lots of areas, keeping possession, maintaining shape and accurate passing. It
is very encouraging to have 5 separate scorers and shows the
quality of the squad.
Team: Joel, Matthew, Nathan, Jack, Lordy, Sam, Charlie, Dev, Daniel, Michael, Aaron, TC, James, Mark and Jacob
