Match Report:   Binfield 4 – 0 Woodley Saints Magicians – 23rd Feb 08 League

It was a grey morning at the Great Hollands ground and the match struggled to get going as both teams were a bit cautious, concentrating on defending.  Woodley were very determined to cancel out any Binfield attacks, and pushed forward to launch a good few attacks themselves.  The half ended 0-0.

The second half saw both teams playing with a lot more urgency and better football, TC getting a few breaks through, one of which he expertly guided past the Woodley keeper to open the scoring.  After playing so well and more than matching us, Woodley seemed to lose a bit of determination and a second goal fell to Tom N who spun round to hit a loose ball in from close range, a first class case of quick reactions and a well-taken poachers goal.

Binfield were now camped in the Woodley half more and the pressure further told when Daniel hit the top corner with a delicate chip, giving the goalie no chance.

Woodley still managed some good counter-attacks, and their fast striker broke through skilfully to threaten the Binfield goal a few times.  One occasion saw a pass across the goal hammered in from close range, but Matthew, fast as lightning, made it back to block the shot with a great tackle and keep a clean sheet, denying Woodley a goal they perhaps deserved.

Binfield scented there more goals to be had and shots and opportunities were plentiful with Dev having a great effort go just over the top corner, and Ben W hitting the post and forcing several good saves with some good shots on the right.

Ben F finished the scoring with a tap in from a pass from Michael across the 6 yard box, his first for Binfield and well deserved for getting into good attacking positions, putting in some great crosses and supporting well.

Man of the Match: This week was hard to chose with many players doing well, (particularly in the second half).  Oliver gets the award for doing a great job all the time he was on, doing the simple things well that keep us a clean sheet, marking, tackling, intercepting and clearing, even getting in a good overhead kick on one occasion.  Well done Oliver.
