Binfield 2 - 0 Crusader Kings |
|
It was a beautiful day and it just kept getting better and better. Binfield were a depleted side with 5 of the squad missing due to a school trip. Undaunted by this the team set about their work with great relish and after a nervy start by both sides it became a battle of two strong and resolute defences. |
| Binfield's hard work soon paid off when debutant, Lordy was put through to coolly and skillfully finish to take the lead on 6 minutes. Crusaders worked hard and played some good football but rarely threatened the Binfield goal, finding the Binfield back four of Oliver, Michael, James and Lewis - then Alex in the second half, just too good for them. |
| Caught on the break again in a similar move, Lordy's speed and finishing again struck to make it 2-0 on 16 minutes. Crusaders heads started to go down as wave after wave of attacks came to nothing. |
| The midfield worked hard to relieve pressure on the back four and build attacks with captain, Mark leading from the front - and back. Chris showed that being Most Improved Player for 2006-07 was well deserved with superb play on the right wing, and Ben W made an excellent debut with a mixture of battling and skill. Between them they seemed to put off Crusaders trying anything down our right. TC showed why he was Manager's Player for 2006-07, scaring the opposition on the left, but had to come off with an injury. Daniel showed his obvious quality, even though being played out of position, Robert was less busy than expected, but never put a foot wrong and his awesome kicking forcing Crusaders back to square one time and time again. Ben F worked hard out of position on the left and also came close to scoring in the second half, only beaten by the post. Lordy nearly got his hat-trick in the dying minutes as Binfield continued to threaten with a mazy run beating defenders and the keeper. What a debut! |
| It was a good match played in the right
spirit for the most part, Crusaders have some fine players, and
credit should go to their defence as well as ours, especially the
big left-footed central defender. The high commitment and
determination of Binfield, however, completely frustrated Crusaders,
who had some good chances towards the end of what was a very tight
game.
There were few chances for both sides, but at the end of the day, we took our's and they didn't. |
| The return fixture should be interesting when they will face the full strength team! |
| Man of the Match: was Lewis - particularly in the first half stopping everything coming down the left in a cool and professional way, and, importantly, always choosing good options when in possession. Coupled with the tremendous energy and power equaled an outstanding performance that we often take for granted. |
| A great effort by Lewis and everyone showed how well we can play. A great result and a memorable day. Thanks boys and a big thank you to Chris Allen for another excellent job as referee. |
