Match report 15th October 2011

Ashridge v Binfield Buffalos

Fine and warm autumnal weather for the afternoon match against Ashridge, who started the game looking strong with some early opportunities at goal. Binfield reacted with Rhys taking the goalie out wide and lobbing the ball over him, only for an Ashridge defender to skilfully head the ball off the line. A corner for Binfield enabled a good header from Jordan, just off target.

Binfield’s goalie, Sam, made some great saves during the game where he took total command of the goal area. Good also to see some good attacking passing during the game, particularly from Josh W to Dan to Richard and finally to Rhys who made a good run towards the goal area. Josh W made a super attempt at goal from 20 yards out with a free kick, but Ashridge goalie saved it. Riley and Jordan linked up with some nice 1-2’s and a scoring chance was thwarted by the Ashridge goalie who came out and blocked well.

The first half saw end to end play with a few chances at both ends. Some nice passing up front from Lewis to Rhys and then to Jordan who made a shot at an open goal and scored. Half time score: Binfield 1 – Ashridge 0

Second half started well for Binfield with more opportunities at goal. A corner from Rhys deflected off an Ashridge player before dribbling over the line to make it 2-0 to Binfield. A subsequent attack from Ashridge attack saw them hit the post and put Binfield under pressure. Binfield struck back with a goal from Jordan following a scramble in the Ashridge goal area, making it 3-0.

Ashridge didn’t let up on the pressure and continued to attack with Binfield’s goalie Sam making some fantastic saves. Richard provided super back pass to Dan in the Ashridge goal area, but he missed a sitter! Ashridge managed to score after a goal-mouth scramble, which resulted in Final Score 3-1 to Binfield.

With the end to end play in this match, there could easily have been another 10 goals scored between the teams. Binfield were the stronger team but need to concentrate more effort on passing. Well done boys for a win!

Burghfield v Binfield Buffalos

With a cold start to the day, Binfield started confidently and put Burghfield under pressure from kick-off. Rhys’ run from the halfway line, out sprinting three Burghfield players resulted in a great goal, 1- 0 to Binfield.

Binfield continued to apply the pressure with a nice cross from Rhys to Dan, who made a shot at goal but missed. Another great cross followed from Lewis to Rhys who was just offside but a good effort. Binfield maintained the good passing with Dan taking another shot, only for it to go well over crossbar. When Burghfield started to apply the pressure, Binfield defence and Sam in goal handle it well. Rhys made another fast run down the wing and crossed the ball to Jordan who just missed scoring a goal. Burghfield came back to score a great goal from a tight angle. Binfield goalie Sam could do nothing to stop it , 1-1. A great effort from Ellis who shot from 25 yards, but saved by Burghfield goalie.

The second half started with another run down the wing from Rhys who skilfully turned a player and crossed to Jordan who shot at goal but missed. A further run from Rhys resulted in Burghfield goalie coming out to block. Rhys deflected to Dan who missed open goal opportunity.

Rhys took a corner, Josh G got to the ball, took a shot and scored 2 – 1. Shortly followed by a further goal from Rhys after passing 2 players to trickle it over the line, 3-1 Burghfield responded with another long range shot which went over the Binfield goalie, making it 3-2 with Burghfield looking the stronger team now. Binfield managed to regain their composure and hold it together for the 5 minutes remaining of the game. All in all, a much better performance from Binfield compared to last weeks’ game and a great match overall.

Final score Binfield 3 – Burghfield 2

NPL v Binfield Buffalos

A lovely sunny day at NPL Youth home ground in Teddington. From the whistle, NPL were putting Binfield under pressure. A bad defensive move by Binfield defenders enabled NPL through to score, 1-0.

Binfield then conceded a penalty following continuous pressure from NPL, who scored again with a great penalty kick.

2-0 down and Binfield started to make some positive attacking moves with shots at goal but none, unfortunately, on target. Josh G perfomed a nice tackle on one of the NPL wingers and, with further attacking moves from Binfield, Jordan had a shot which was just off target.

NPL reacted with good, quick counter attacks, with Binfield’s Sam D coming out of his goal area to make a good save. Binfield responded by moving forward and a 15 yard shot from Dan went just over the cross bar. A weak goal kick from an NPL defender was intercepted by Jordan who having successfully gone around the defence, shot at goal and scored from a deflection off the goalie. 2-1

The remainder of the game saw Binfield under a great deal of pressure from NPL. Binfield defence did well to fend off the onslaught of attacks, but the team appeared to panic which resulted in Binfield booting the ball away, rather than passing. Just before the full-time whistle, Sam G made a great pass to the forwards, which was wasted.

Final score 2-1 to NPL

Not one of the best performances from Binfield Buffalos, however, an outstanding performance from linesman, Paul Wakefield!
