FIRST HALF TRIPLE ENDS MOLES FA CUP JOURNEY
Horndean progress to the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round
The moles brief dalliance with the FA Cup ended on Tuesday night at a sometimes wet Horndean Football Club.
The journey down was an eventful one with a rear tyre puncture threatening our arrival. Fortunately AA man Baldrey was on hand to get us on our way quickly on a skinny 50MPH replacement.
Horndean turned out to be a real old fashioned ground fully enclosed which a severe end to end and corner to corner slope.
Binfield lined up without the services of Jack Broome, Jeff Brown and Sean Moore and with various positional changes from Saturdays game which the Moles should have probably won.
Horndean started very brightly , kicking downhill and the visitors were immediately under pressure. Home advantage being used very well with diagonal balls stretching the Moles defence on numerous occasions. It was inevitable that the goal would come and it did from a corner in the 20th minute . Lively No 9 Mark Smith glancing a header into the far corner when not picked up from a corner. Goal number two was not long in coming when a mix up at the back gave Harry Jackson the simplest of tap in’s in the 36th minute . At the other end Joss Millar wriggled free but scuffed his attempt. Binfield’s misery was compounded just before halftime (41) when Liam Kyle made it 3-0.
Kicking down the hill in the second half Binfield probably edged it but only really created a couple of real chances the best from which Danny Langford should have scored in the closing minutes from Josh Howells great cross but scooped the chance over the bar. Binfield substitutions Hayden for Millar 66, Lee for Tuttle (injury) 60 mins Kemp for Dickie 63 mins.
All in all a game which was lost in the first half and some work needed before the weekends tough fixtures at home to Highmoor Ibis and Away at Bracknell Town.
Line up Hill, Thompson-Wheeler, Tuttle, Gritt, Smith (G) Smith (J) Dickie, Knight , Millar, Langford, Howell – Subs Lee, Hayden, Kemp, Whyte, Vaughan
